Crispin's easy mulled wine recipe

I've rediscovered the joy of mulled wine over the Christmas period, and thought I'd make a note of my recipe for future reference. I made this up a few days ago, inspired by distant memories, and it turned out lovely (and popular with the ladies of the house). Of course the actual quantities, times and methods can be interpreted with great... read more

Live Odacova and Stupid Death

Lois’s face painting was only marred by doing the writing while looking in the mirror – she was of course an evil avocado. Robin became Stupid Death from the Horrible Histories. And here’s the both of them… read more

Sunday Worship from Brecon Cathedral

We were all up at 6 this morning, leaving the house to clear dawn skies with a sickle moon and stars, for final rehearsals in the Cathedral; then at 08:10, after a few silent and tense minutes of waiting, the live Remembrance Day service. Robin in the choir of course, we in the congregation. Lo nearly got the giggles before the start, while... read more

Mountain Hare spotted in mountains

On a walk around Loch Brandy in Glen Clova we spotted an unusual patch of snow, which then started lolloping about. We think it was a Mountain Hare, also known as the Blue Hare. The pictures are terrible, as light was very poor and the critter was quite a long way away. Trying to get closer with full 720mm zoom in bad light… this photo looks... read more

I'm going to smell like the kitchen sink til the day I die

No, I've not caught a fairy a swipe and earned myself a curse - I've been unblocking our drain, which was over-filling alarmingly in the rain. I had to dig and delve a full arm's length to claw out greasy sludge, leaves, and the remains of many wrigglers and critters. The smell was pretty intense, and is lingering despite my best efforts with... read more

Progress at Number 1

It’s been a while since I posted any pictures from #1.  Well builder Sam and assistant Steve have been in (off and on) for a few weeks, and we have made some progress. The plumber and electrician have both made tentative appearances, and are about to start work in earnest (allegedly). Sam and Steve have removed the troublesome chimney… which... read more

Robin sings like lark

Robin attended auditions for the Brecon Cathedral choir this morning in the Diocesan Centre with Mark Duthie and Father Michael.  Robin was very nervous, but there were several current choirboys and girls who helped make the candidates feel at ease, and some of the “matrons” and parents there to chat to, plus drinks and cake. After a 10-15... read more

OMG, 3 weeks til the SLMM

Details have just been revealed about the 2012 Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon – it starts at Wasdale Head.  This has raised expectations (fear) with Naomi, entering her first ever MM this year. We’ve entered the Kirkfell class - the third most severe below Scafell and Bowfell, and the easiest class that was not already full when we... read more

Windows Backup failing with error code 0x81000039… here’s a solution

My Windows Backup has been failing to complete for a while, after churning away for ages. I use it to backup a data drive and make a system image onto a NAS (a 1GB RAID5 Netgear ReadyNAS Duo, which is Linux based). I wasn’t that fussed for a while as I have other backups that are working, but finally this morning I chased the beggar down. It was... read more
